If you serve families who have had any interaction with public schools in the United States, you have probably heard of the Common Core Standards. And what you’ve likely read about are the many criticisms of the standards. Here are some links with some basic information about the Common Core as well as where the controversy lies at the moment.

Some states rebrand controversial Common Core education standards
While the education world is divided regarding the actual value of the standards, there is little question that the Common Core has a negative image right now. There has been a significant amount of push-back related to the Common Core standards in the US. The amount of complaints regarding these standards, adopted by 45 of the 50 states, has resulted in many US states renaming the Common Core in an effort to avoid political fallout. So if you’re consulting with a family from the US, be aware that their home state may have adopted the Common Core standards but call them something else. Read more about this here.
